Explore how machine learning might be used to support decision-making for children and families. This open access online workshop is aimed at academics, policymakers and sector leaders working in children’s services, who might be considering whether machine learning and predictive analytics are the right solution to a current policy challenge, or who want to keep abreast of current thinking in this area.
Drawing on recent academic reviews and real-world examples in English local authorities, we will give participants the opportunity to hear about and reflect on:

The potential uses of machine learning and predictive analytics in supporting decisions about children and families.

The practical and ethical issues that arise when designing and implementing machine learning solutions.

The experiences of local authorities who are exploring or testing this approach, including how they are incorporating the voice of children and families in the design process.
These questions and provocations will be explored through a combination of expert inputs and participatory discussions. Speakers include:
